Dr.Martens For Days... 365 To Be Exact

October means fall. Fall means no more nerdy sneakers and no more nerdy sneakers mean it's time to bring out the Dr. Martens.

There has not ever, in my entire 23 years of existence been a pair of shoes I have loved more than my Dr. Martens. This is saying a lot; finding shoes is an annoying and time consuming task because I am so picky with how things feel on my feet. Heaven forbid the heel even rubs me the wrong way, or that the pinky toe touches the side if the shoe weird.

I don't know what it is about these shoes that I am so obsessed with! They're edgy, practical but unconventional and are legitimately the coolest boots.

Stop Hoarding Things You Don't Wear!

This past week I went through my closet and purged a good chunk of clothes I never wear anymore. I love doing this a couple times a year to make room for new clothes and because I don't need to hoard every single item I've ever owned just in case I decide to start wearing it again- this never happens, don't kid yourself.

4 Things To Do Before Summer's Over

It's the end of July and I couldn't even tell you where me entire summer's gone. Anyone you talk to is trying to jam pack all the summer-y things into the few short weeks we've got left, before we're forced to pull out the parkas and boots- which, to be fair,  does comes with some top notch outfits... very small trade off. I know.

1. Take a Picnic to the River Valley (or your backyard!)

This is one of those things you always say you're going to do, and have the most amazing intentions of organizing, but it never happens. Until now! Grab a blanket, pick up your favourite snacks, call up your friends and make it happen. A picnic doesn't have to be this daunting Pinterest curated event that most people imagine when you think of a picnic. Keep it simple, casual and fun so you can actually enjoy the day you're having and you won't have to fuss over the aesthetic of the picnic.

Some of my favourite picnic snacks are candy, usually of the sour variety, some chips, cookies or crackers, fresh fruits usually in watermelon or berry form. Oh! And you've always got to have something to drink too. Arizona tea is the ultimate picnic drink- 99cents for the best summer drink out there!

Cake For Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Bon Appetite is a beautifully curated magazine for the foodies of the world. The layout, the recipes, the pictures- they really do a fabulous job of capturing everything I could want from a magazine including this delicious carrot cake recipe Mikaela came across the other day while flipping through.

Wednesday Is A Craft Day

Often, Pam and I find these really neat ideas floating on the web, send them to each other and say "Oh wow, we need to do this for the blog!"  I'd say between the two of us, we're pretty darn crafty and really good at creating things... but that doesn't mean they always look as amazing as we expect them to. Fast forward to Wednesday, when we made something that actually looked exactly as we expected it to, which if you know anything about DIYs or internet crafts it's a very rare occurrence.
Here is the run down on how to make beautifully marbled cards we saw on honestlywtf using shaving cream and gel food colouring!

Being Basic Isn't A Bad Thing

For no good reason at all the term basic has gotten itself a bad name. I honestly have no clue why it happened, or who started it, but I'm here to defend basic when it comes to fashion, because let's face it I am basic/100 and I love it.

When I think of dressing basic, it's always about the neutrals. I honestly own the same shirts in 3 different neutral colours because I know it looks good, and no matter what I pair it with it's going to match no matter what.

The end goal of dressing basic is ultimately to have a comfortable and killer outfit everyone is jealous of.

Stay Gold

I'm not going to lie, I am really bad at keeping my veeeery long paper trail of receipts, invoices and well...just anything made of paper organized. It's mostly due to having an inadequate place to store things. I work in a very small space so if my papers aren't neatly tucked away in a drawer or sorted, everything ends up in a paper box and never to be seen again...until I desperately need it and I'm frantically sorting through a years worth of junk. It's a problem.

So instead of sorting (pun intended) my problems out head on, I came up with this cracking idea to DIY a pretty looking box to store all my papers in. This is all in the hopes that one day I will sift through everything - so far, it's working out pretty great.

For The Love of Scrunchies

Scrunchies. Like it or not, they're making a come back and I am the biggest fan

I remember being probably 6 or 7 and owning a tie-dyed orange red and yellow scrunchie that matched my bright orange and red beach sarong with outlines of geckos on it. Extremely fashionable, I know. When I was that young I had absolutely no reason for liking something unless it held a certain function, and this scrunchie, simply kept all my hair back(which, at that age, was just as a large of a task as it is now). There's not a defining moment I can think of when I stopped wearing it, I just remember it being something I loved and then totally forgot about.

Just A Snap Shot In Time

Walking into our basement, you are welcomed by a shelving unit that is filled with 20 plus photo albums from our childhood. Last week my sister was flipping through them and sent me a picture of our old kitten wrapped.. or smothered in my blanket with my arms wrapped around the poor thing (I was potentially obsessed with the kitten). It's such a goofy picture but it reminded me how amazing film photography is and how I have been more inclined to reach for my Minolta XG1 and shoot with a roll of film rather than my DSLR.

Guinness Chocolate Cake

It's that time of year where second winter tends to hit this side of the hemisphere. It's that hope you feel in your chest that spring is just around the corner and then BAM, winter's back.

Instead of crying and crawling back into bed and waiting for May to come around, you should bake this cake and then crawl back into bed. With St. Patrick's day around the corner, there's no better time to make a guinness chocolate cake.

In Theory This Was A Good Idea...

The plan for this weeks post was to make super yummy fruit cubes you could put into your yogurt for breakfast, or defrost them into a jar for a quick smoothie, or to snack on them throughout the day... but to be perfectly honest the did not turn out. So, what follows is my super cute photos of fruit and even mushy-er fruit!

Guys & Gals Travel Essentials

My boyfriend Sam and are heading off to the mountains this week and thought we'd show you what our travel essentials are! Also just so we're clear, this is just our side bags for the road trip down, not our duffle bags. Those are literally jam packed with clothes as we without fail, over pack every single time we go away and we don't want to embarrass our selves.

Laptop - I only have this in my side bag solely for the reason I don't trust it's not going to get crushed
by our bags in the trunk. Possibly a sign of over packing? Maybe.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

Monkey pull apart bread is a recipe I stumble across more times than I can count, yet I've never made it... mostly because it looks so complicated and I never take the time to actually read through the recipe. Good news all around though, it's extremely easy to make, 100% fool proof and it's pretty much a dream come true with bread, cinnamon, sugar and butter being the only ingredients. Need I say more?

The Facts are the Facts

If a stranger were to come into my house not knowing a single thing about myself or my family, they'd most likely walk out with three solid assumptions, which would be 100% accurate. First, we have an abundance of shoes. Second, we really really like food. Third, we could open a plant observatory with the amount of plants situated throughout the house.

Officially Addicted

Mugs.
Something everyone needs, loves and collects whether you'd like to admit that or not. My mug collection has slowly been growing over the past few years and to be honest, nothing makes me happier! There's something about opening up your cupboard and choosing a mug suiting your mood at that exact second, or picking the perfect mug for the evening company you over for causal chit-chat and desserts.

Be Cuter, I Dare You

I didn't realize I had a collared shirt obsession until I had to round them up for this post. oops...
More often than not, you'll usually find me wearing some version of a collared shirt, dress or anything else with a collar for that matter... I think I'm in love.

Product Round Up of 2015

With 2015 coming to an end tonight, I thought it'd be most fitting to do a product round up of some of mine & Pam's top products we have been obsessing over! After reading so many other blogs, watching endless hours of Youtube videos and chatting with friends who are in love with certain products, we couldn't help but go out and try these products for ourselves!

Shakshuka

This is one of those recipes that you're gonna make ten times over because it's way too easy and so satisfying. Shakshuka and I have been friends for awhile now but I haven't made a batch in what feels like ages.

So what is it? It's a Tunisian dish that involves cooking eggs in a spicy tomato sauce and the flavours pack a punch. It also smells so intoxicating, and warms you up from the inside out thanks to the chilis.

With the temperature dropping, I find myself coming back to this again and again these past few weeks and I think I've had it for breakfast almost every single day. It's super easy to divide up into ramekins and individually bake the eggs in the oven instead of finishing the eggs on the stove. Pre-portioning is my jam since it lets me grab breakfast on the go when I'm running late for work. This recipe comes from David Lebovitz who I've been following for a very long time now and I find it works perfect every time. Another fantastic shakshuka recipe to check out is Yotam Ottolenghi's who's recipe you can find in his book Jerusalem. Happy cooking!
