Being Basic Isn't A Bad Thing

For no good reason at all the term basic has gotten itself a bad name. I honestly have no clue why it happened, or who started it, but I'm here to defend basic when it comes to fashion, because let's face it I am basic/100 and I love it.
When I think of dressing basic, it's always about the neutrals. I honestly own the same shirts in 3 different neutral colours because I know it looks good, and no matter what I pair it with it's going to match no matter what.
I'm going to put this picture of my clothes rack here so you can see what I mean when I say basic. Unintentionally everything I own is either black, navy, white, grey, or on the odd occasion denim. I don't avoid looking for or buying color, but my neutral basics are literally what I love wearing year round and I know I don't have to think too hard when trying to put together an outfit.
If I'm leaving my house, the chances I am wearing head to toe black are pretty high... like a solid 90%. No matter where you are going, black is simple, dressy and casual. A 3-in-1!? How could you not be into that?!
One way I add a little more life into this outfit especially coming into spring and summer, is by wearing a lighter coloured shoe. Seems boring I know, but I just love how basic, obvious and simple it is!
Moving onto something a little lighter, I'll pair my black denim jeans with a white tank or tee. Again basic, plain and simple, but it's a clean look that can't really be worn wrong. If black denim is for some bizarre reason not your thing, you can always opt for a dark blue denim or a classic acid wash. One word of cautions though when it comes to lighter coloured bottoms-white on white is never a good idea. White is reserved only for your tops... every single time.

The end goal of dressing basic is ultimately to have a comfortable and killer outfit everyone is jealous of.

The oxford style of shoe I have on below, paired with the cuffed or 7/8 pant length is also the perfect way to keep this look on the dressier side, where as a pair of white sneakers would keep it more on the casual side. This is the amazing thing with an entirely black outfit! You have a million and two ways to wear it and it looks

Exceptions to the all basic rule includes:
Striped Shirts- These are still basic with out being basic... especially when it's white and black/navy stripes.
Overalls- As long as they're black, light denim or acid wash there is no issue here!
Denim tops- Denim paired with denim can be a tricky one, but when you have a light denim top with black denim bottoms, I see no issues.
But I don't want to wear pants all year round- Basic bottoms come in skirts, shorts, joggers, and pants. There's options out there I promise!
