Nothing beats the smell of christmas

There is something about the smell of Christmas that's like no other. Every year I always comment about how excited I am for the smell of the Christmas tree or the freshly baked cookies I've got going in the oven. By far though, one of my favourites is mulled wine!
Mulled wine is something I have never actually made myself, but have always enjoyed drinking! When I was searching for a recipe, there were so many variations that I couldn't choose between them, so I decided to mash a few together for the perfect recipe!

What am I going to need for this you may ask? Well... here you go!
- Red Wine
- Honey
- Oranges
- Fresh or Frozen Cranberries
- Cinnamon Sticks
- Nutmeg
- Star Anise
- Whole Cloves
- Cheese Cloth/ Loose Tea Packet
The amazing thing with this recipe, is it's 100% customizable, which is why we haven't included any measurements! If you love a spicier drink then add more spices, if you love a mild warm drink then cut back on what you're adding. There's no wrong way to do this!

Pam & I decided that it would be easiest to create a little spice bag with cheese cloth so we didn't have to drain the mixture before pouring it into cups. Just cut out a decent sized square of cheese cloth and add all of the spices into the centre. Once all the spices are there, take some string and tie the top closed!
If you can't get your hands on cheese cloth, a loose tea packet or even a metal tea infuser would work just as well.

Once you've got your spice bag under control, wash the oranges and slice them into discs. Pour the wine into a medium sized saucepan adding in the honey, cranberries and the orange slices. We also mushed in some of the orange pieces just of added flavour and texture.
Using medium to high heat,  bring the wine mixture to a light boil while mixing occasionally. Once you've got it to a slight boil, turn the heat down to a simmer for about 15 minutes and enjoy!
