Product Round Up of 2015

With 2015 coming to an end tonight, I thought it'd be most fitting to do a product round up of some of mine & Pam's top products we have been obsessing over! After reading so many other blogs, watching endless hours of Youtube videos and chatting with friends who are in love with certain products, we couldn't help but go out and try these products for ourselves!

Nothing beats the smell of christmas

There is something about the smell of Christmas that's like no other. Every year I always comment about how excited I am for the smell of the Christmas tree or the freshly baked cookies I've got going in the oven. By far though, one of my favourites is mulled wine!
Mulled wine is something I have never actually made myself, but have always enjoyed drinking! When I was searching for a recipe, there were so many variations that I couldn't choose between them, so I decided to mash a few together for the perfect recipe!

Simple Christmas decorations

Here we are at day three of our DIY gift series!

Today we're taking simple clear ornaments and filling them with  loose glitter. I got the idea from the H&M window display and couldn't help but think we could make these ourselves!

Wooden Mod Podge Frames

Welcome to day two of our DIY gift series!
One of the best crafting materials ever made is Mod Podge glue. If you have no clue what I'm talking about a) you're missing out, and b) I'm questioning your life choices pretty heavily. Today we're talking DIY Mod Podge wooden frames, it doesn't get much better than that! These frames have got to be one of the easiest and most personal DIY gifts out there, and one that I resort to year round. All you're going to need is a wooden frame, Mod Podge, a paint brush and old magazines. So simple!

Cake In a Jar

Welcome to the Do It Yourself Gift Series!

I'm just going to throw this out there and say Pam & I are obsessed with crafting. Give us some glue (preferably glitter), scissors and paper and we are so content. For me, I love nothing more than finishing a project I've been working on and immediately sending a picture of it to Pam to show her how pleased I am with myself and how fabulous...or unfortunate (yes, this happens on a regular basis) it's turned out. For the next four days, we are going to be posting our favourite DIY gifts for you, along with super easy how-to steps so you can become just as craft obsessed as we are!

Shakshuka

This is one of those recipes that you're gonna make ten times over because it's way too easy and so satisfying. Shakshuka and I have been friends for awhile now but I haven't made a batch in what feels like ages.

So what is it? It's a Tunisian dish that involves cooking eggs in a spicy tomato sauce and the flavours pack a punch. It also smells so intoxicating, and warms you up from the inside out thanks to the chilis.

With the temperature dropping, I find myself coming back to this again and again these past few weeks and I think I've had it for breakfast almost every single day. It's super easy to divide up into ramekins and individually bake the eggs in the oven instead of finishing the eggs on the stove. Pre-portioning is my jam since it lets me grab breakfast on the go when I'm running late for work. This recipe comes from David Lebovitz who I've been following for a very long time now and I find it works perfect every time. Another fantastic shakshuka recipe to check out is Yotam Ottolenghi's who's recipe you can find in his book Jerusalem. Happy cooking!

Stop.Relax.Repeat

Coloring is something I've always enjoyed. I don't know if it's having the freedom to create whatever comes to mind, or being controlled by the solid black lines that makes it so satisfying in the end when you've finally finished colouring the entire page.

Edmonton & Area Handmade Market and Activity Roundup

So Anthie and I have been cranking out gift guides like the good lil' Christmas helpers we are, and I thought I would take it a step further by creating a list (we like lists around here) of some handmade markets and events happening around the city of Edmonton. Jason Blower, who does some amazing illustrations of our city was kind enough to let us showcase his art (yay local art!) and I'll be sharing some of my favourites in this post!

Gift Guide for the Guys

I used to think buying gifts for the guys in my life was literally impossible. I never knew what they'd appreciate, or even what they'd wanted! The past few years though, I've really started to think about it and honestly, guys love familiar things. They love opening up a package of their favourite socks, or boxers that they can't live with out.

Here are our Top 10 familiar gifts for guys!

Gift Guide: For the girl who makes everything from scratch

This guide is directed at that girl you know who is constantly making things with her hands whether it's baked goods in the kitchen, a knitted scarf, an abstract painting, or beautiful handmade pottery. Regardless, it's always nice to receive something beautifully handmade or something to help wind down after a stressful day at work!

Gift Guide for the Gals

Welcome to our second gift guide of the season!

Finding the perfect gift for the gals in your life can definitely be an overwhelming task. What do they need? What do they want? What do they already have? These are things I ask myself on a daily basis when trying to buy gifts for my sisters and close girlfriends! Pam and I decided this year we wanted to ask ourselves, what would I love to unwrap this holiday season

Here are our top 10 gifts we know every gal will love!

LUSH haul gift guide

Welcome to our first gift guide of the season!

Now, on the whole, I'd say Pam and I are pretty darn good gift-givers. We always buy the gifts everyone wants but will never actually buy for themselves. So naturally, nothing gets us more excited for the holidays than being able to give someone the absolute perfect gift!

If you're not too sure where to start with the whole "perfect gift-giving," begin with something simple you know everyone loves- bath and body products! LUSH is one of our go-to shops when looking for those smaller but meaningful gifts! Not only are all  LUSH products handmade with fresh ingredients, but they are against all animal testing and not to mention, they all smell incredible.

Here are our top 6 most loved LUSH products for both the guys and gals!

Minimalistic Vibes

I have finally gotten around to re-doing my room, which meant getting rid of the rocking horse wallpaper that lined my bubblegum pink and baby blue walls, and yes, when I was 15 I thought I had the coolest room ever. Now being 22, I really wanted my room to reflect more of my personal style and aesthetic; I wanted something extremely minimalistic, clean and simple. My room being stripped down to creamy white walls and minimalist furniture is exactly what I had envisioned it to be; unfortunately, it's now the little things like my bare bedside table that I am struggling with the most. How do you add something to a room without making it look offensively gaudy? (My absolute least favorite thing.)

And like that, Winter is Here

It’s the beginning of November and my Uggs and parka are here to stay and I am completely okay with that. To combat the dreary-ness of the cold weather that has graciously made its way into our lives, Pam and I have created a twist on the classic hot chocolate you know and love.

Note: Use good chocolate if you can find it, we used a super beautiful dark Varlhona chocolate here, it makes a world of difference!
Lets get started!

The Fall Starter Guide: Men's Edition

I have to start this post off by saying that you should in no way take this too seriously. Out of the two of us, Anthie is by far the better dresser. I am the lazier one and now that I'm working at home, it's ten times worse.

I'm a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl out of necessity more than anything. It makes it easy for me to dress it up for a client meeting in a coffee shop and still be able to run over to the farm later in the afternoon and roll around in the dirt if I have to. What I'm trying to get at is that even though this post is geared towards guys, I can tell you I have pretty much own this outfit ten times over and it allows me to be casual as possible.

Fall-ing into a New Season

Fall is a “love it or hate it” kind of thing. You can pretend that you like pumpkin spice lattes, or that you spend your Saturday evenings walking through the river valley admiring the gorgeous yellow, orange, and red leaves, but you can’t fool us fall-lovers; we know your commitment truly lies elsewhere in the seasons.

Sour Cherry Gin Fizz

Summer is long gone and the breeze blowing around has been getting colder and colder every day. But a girl can dream, we're trying to make the most of the few warm days we have left around here. Sour cherries are something that come around here in August and with my backyard overflowing with them, I find myself putting these ubiquitous little gems into everything.
One of my favourite things to do is make a sour cherry gin fizz, it's super tart and refreshing and just the lil kick of sunshine I need to salute these unusually warm October days goodbye.

Getting Crafty with Pumpkins

October is the only month of the year where you get to be crafty with pumpkins. Every year when you look for pumpkin carving ideas, you always come across the same ones that are way more difficult than you want to admit, and when you attempt to carve out your masterpiece all you end up with is a gaping hole in your pumpkin because you cut the wrong portion out… or maybe that’s just me?

Edmonton Corn Maze

Since graduating from University this past June, I have become quite the shameless homebody and workaholic. Between a jam-packed work schedule and all the other minute things that seem to throw me distract me on a daily basis, spontaneous adventures do not seem to come along too often. Go figure! When we were brainstorming places to go in Edmonton, the Corn Maze was somewhere we both had loved but have not been to in years. Also I found out they had a petting zoo…so obviously we had no choice but to go.
