Edmonton Corn Maze

Since graduating from University this past June, I have become quite the shameless homebody and workaholic. Between a jam-packed work schedule and all the other minute things that seem to throw me distract me on a daily basis, spontaneous adventures do not seem to come along too often. Go figure! When we were brainstorming places to go in Edmonton, the Corn Maze was somewhere we both had loved but have not been to in years. Also I found out they had a petting zoo…so obviously we had no choice but to go.
While driving out to the Corn Maze, the highway was surprisingly quiet with the sun trying its hardest to peak through the smoke and haze that was the sky. As we entered into the open field of sunflowers and corn stalks, it was like all concern had left my mind and I was ready to embrace whatever was coming our way for this evening's adventures.
The corn maze itself was as exciting and mysterious as I remember it being back in high school; the corn stalks were taller than I was, it was not over crowed with people so we could leisurely enjoy the maze and there were enough twists and dead ends making you lose your sense of direction at any point. Naturally we chose the “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader” maze map and thought we were off to a killer start until we came to post #2 for the second time… and then post #8 for a third…extremely embarrassing considering we both have university degrees.
As we came up to the half-way bridge, we were thankfully able to restore our sense of direction and more importantly our faith in each other’s education. As we stood on top of the bridge way, the corn around us was like one massive sheet of lush green, which seemed to go on for ages intertwining itself with the nearby fields.
When coming to the end of the maze its so obvious the entire evening is about more than finishing the maze, its about being able to stop along the way to take the most ridiculous pictures, getting lost at any and every point along the way and laughing with, but mostly at the people you are with- that’s all you can really ask of a spontaneous adventure isn’t it?
It was
just so casual, relaxing and totally carefree - there could have been no better
way to spend the evening. If you have never been to the Edmonton Corn Maze, or
even if you have, take two hours out of your day and go because it’s seriously
worth it, and it might just be that spontaneous adventure you’ve been waiting
for to free up some space on that jam-packed schedule running your life.
