Fall-ing into a New Season

Monday, October 26, 2015

Fall is a “love it or hate it” kind of thing. You can pretend that you like pumpkin spice lattes, or that you spend your Saturday evenings walking through the river valley admiring the gorgeous yellow, orange, and red leaves, but you can’t fool us fall-lovers; we know your commitment truly lies elsewhere in the seasons.
When I think back, it has only been a few years since I’ve truly embraced fall and all of the amazing things it has to offer. It’s the season to dust off the oversized sweaters, reach for those cute leather booties you’ve been dying to wear all year, and wrap yourself in that beloved scarf that saves your little behind every time you have to brave the cold...or in my case the 6 degree weather I seem to wince at.

The air is just crisp enough that it makes you enjoy its cold embrace for the smallest moment. On most days it’s the perfect temperature, allowing you to throw on a light coat and not have to worry about putting leggings on underneath your jeans -because unfortunately that happens more often than I’d like to admit.

I’m going to throw it out there and say for me, my favourite thing about fall would have to be choosing outfits... typical, I know! BUT hear me out. It’s the only season where you can mix and match your lighter pieces with some of your heavier layers and still be dressed appropriately for the weather.
Although fall is quickly approaching us, I am still embracing the few warmer days we have left, and really utilizing my “transition into fall” pieces which focus a bit more on the lighter pieces.

The go-to outfit I’ve been loving right now has got to be a black high-waisted skater skirt, a white t-shirt, and a light-weight jean jacket finished with booties or sneakers. I am all about the basics and keeping things as simple as possible. This outfit keeps all of my basic colours and pieces into one look without it being too boring or too busy. For those of us who need a bit more warmth in our fall outfits, pairing this with cozy knee high tights and a blanket scarf is the perfect way to incorporate those heavier pieces but still keeping it functional for the cooler fall days!
