Minimalistic Vibes

I have finally
gotten around to re-doing my room, which meant getting rid of the rocking horse
wallpaper that lined my bubblegum pink and baby blue walls, and yes, when I was
15 I thought I had the coolest room ever. Now being 22, I really wanted my room
to reflect more of my personal style and aesthetic; I wanted something
extremely minimalistic, clean and simple. My room being stripped down to creamy
white walls and minimalist furniture is exactly what I had envisioned
it to be; unfortunately, it's now the little things like my bare bedside table that I am
struggling with the most. How do you add something to a room without making it
look offensively gaudy? (My absolute least favorite thing.)
I think I have
found the perfect solution and it’s really so simple: candles! I swear candles
are the easiest things to put into a room that instantly make it look like
hours of planning and decorating have gone into it. They’re unobtrusive,
visually pleasing, and as a bonus they serve as a casual air freshener! Let’s
be honest, who wouldn’t be into that?
Personally I
usually go for the smaller candles. The first reason being that I never have
the patience to burn the full sized ones and the second is that minis are
actually just way cuter. Now, the tricky thing with this entire candle
situation, is trying to find the perfect balance between that overpowering
floral scent and the really sweet vanilla or fruity scent most candles exude. I
am always grabbing for the sweet tangy scents versus the warm vanilla or floral
scents. I don’t know what it is about them, but I just can’t get enough!
A few must haves
I’ve been burning constantly on my bedside table are the painted tin candles
from Urban Outfitters (similar here) in
the scents Grapefruit & Papaya and Black Dahlia and the
Voluspa candles in the scents Goji &Toracco Orange, Saijo Persimmon,
and Makassar Ebony & Peach, which are from Chapters
or Lux BeautyBar. Even when they’re not burning they give off the subtlest scents making
you want to walk in and out of the room copious amounts of times just so you
can enjoy their presence.
Although candles are
nothing new and exciting, they can be the easiest fix for that one room you've
been struggling to find the perfect "thing" for. One piece of advice I do have, is to take your time finding the perfect candle because there's nothing worse than having a candle that you never want to burn!
